    In today's interconnected world, disinformation poses a significant challenge to international cooperation and stability. As specialists and executives preparing for deployment in various regions, it is crucial to understand and navigate the complex landscape of information and misinformation.

    This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively identify, understand, and combat disinformation. Through a series of engaging modules, you will gain:

    • Regional Sensitivity: Learn about the impact of disinformation in different regional contexts through expert insights.

    The “Disinformation Compass” includes videos, expert interviews, quizzes, and feedback tools, all designed to enhance your learning experience. This course will evolve progressively. You can start with the first module, containing 3 videos, interactive tools and a link library for further reading.

    At the end of this course, there is a possibility to share your experiences with disinformation and to give us feedback – about what you liked, felt was missing, etc. More videos - from 5 regions from around the world- will be produced and published in soon in a second edition of this course. They will concentrate on cases and contexts of disinformation in specific regions of the so-called Global South and Eastern Europe.  The expertise comes from DW Akademie as part of Deutsche Welle.

      In our first video, we delve into the concept of disinformation and its various forms. You'll learn about misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, and how each type impacts our personal relationships and collective decisions. We also explore key concepts like Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI) and information integrity, highlighting the challenges and complexities of defining and addressing disinformation.

    • Video 2: The role of AI and big data

      The second video focuses on how AI and Big Data influence our daily lives and contribute to the spread of disinformation. You'll discover how algorithms curate content on social media, often prioritizing emotional and sensational content. We discuss the rise of generative AI and its implications for disinformation, as well as the importance of responsible AI development to ensure ethical use, fairness, and transparency.

      In the final video, we provide practical steps and digital tools to help you identify and counter disinformation. You'll learn how to observe and cross-check information, use reverse image searches, and leverage fact-checking resources. We also emphasize the importance of sharing verified information within your community and gently correcting disinformation to create a more informed digital environment.
