Since the 2nd World War, there have not been as many violent conflicts as there are today. About a quarter of the world's population lives in fragile and conflict-ridden regions. This is one of the reasons why there have never been as many refugees as there are now. The international arms trade has also increased in recent years. It is the responsibility of governments, institutions and civil society activists to promote peacebuilding and good governance.
